Weekly Update through Christmas Break!

Warner School Community,
With the pending winter weather for Wednesday evening, Thursday, and into Friday and limited time to make adjustments with semester test schedules and Christmas break activities, we will have No School on Thursday to ensure everyone can adequately prepare for and complete all end of the semester work. The marginal road conditions, forecast for more snow, extremely cold wind chill temperatures (we are currently under a Wind Chill Warning for all day Thursday), very cold actual temperatures, and possibility of ground blizzard conditions, it is in everyone’s best interests to avoid travel on Thursday.
Making the decision today provides all our semester test takers ample opportunity to prepare, complete, and finalize work before we finish up grades. It also allows elementary students to have their ‘Christmas Celebrations’, caroling, and complete any assignments/assessments. This adjustment allows staff to complete semester grades in an orderly manner and helps us move forward into the 2nd semester when we return in January.
For students taking semester tests, we will follow a regular 7 period schedule on Wednesday with tests administered during regular class times. Students are only required to attend the periods they have tests to complete, however the time to complete the test will be a regular class period and not the extended schedule we traditionally use. Staff will work with students if they require additional time but we expect all 1st semester coursework and semester tests to be completed by the end of the school day tomorrow.
Under normal circumstances, we would not make weather related announcements this far in advance. However, with our semester test schedule and elementary activities, we believe it provides everyone (staff and students) an opportunity to work through these concerns in a timely fashion.
We appreciate everyone being flexible and understanding during this chaotic weather period. Oddly enough, Wednesday is the official start to Winter. With the cancelation of school on Thursday, we will also postpone our Boys Basketball game at Florence-Henry.
We want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

One more chance to get into the Christmas Spirit at school this year! Please join us this evening for the Middle School and High School Christmas concert at 7:00 p.m. in the Warner Gym. If you can't be here in person, please use our livestream link on our school website: www.warner.k12.sd.us
