Farm to School

As everyone may have seen last week via school facebook/website announcement or the email notice sent out from Mrs. Lane; the Warner School District is excited to announce our participation in the Farm to School Program. Our primary focus is using locally raised beef in our school food service program. The entirety of the program includes various food products from milk, cheese, vegetable, etc. The intent of the program is to have local producers donate an animal for use in our lunch program, and for the school to promote and thank the producer for helping out. The program also allows for monetary donations to help cover processing costs and possible purchase of animals (if donations are not available).

We are currently seeking donations of somewhere between 4-6 head of beef and monetary donations to help cover processing costs. The school has limited freezer space, so the animals need to arrive periodically throughout the school year.  One sticking point for schools, is the beef must derive from a USDA inspected facility, unfortunately that excludes many local butchers from participating since they are only state inspected. We are fortunate to have partnered with the recently approved USDA inspected butcher shop--The Meathouse in Andover SD.  The school will help with coordinating drop-off of the animal and we will be responsible for pick-up after the beef is processed.

If you would like to make a donation of an animal please reach out to Mr. Kroll  via phone (605-225-6194) or email at michael.kroll@k12.sd.us.

If you would like to make a financial contribution please reach out to Mrs. Vetter via phone (605-225-6194) or email at angie.vetter@k12.sd.us
