Track construction continues to progress as we move through the dog days of summer and we have come a long ways from when the picture was taken earlier this year. A majority of the dirt work for the track is complete with large amounts of clay removed and lots of gravel/sand material hauled in. Concrete curb has been poured around the interior and exterior sides of the track with finish grading preparing the foundation for asphalt paving. Once the paving is complete, rubber track surfacing can begin on the track area, high jump zone on the north end and all jump runways (long jump/triple jump runways and pole vault runways). The shot-put area has been excavated of all old material, with Agra lime taking its place.
Preparations are currently underway for the long jump/triple jump runways and pits; concrete work will finish with the pole vault area (runways and pad platform). Once concrete is finished, fencing can begin with a larger perimeter being enclosed. We will also add some additional access points while securing others to improve access and safety for our fans and athletes.
The track wasn’t the only project we tackled over the summer. We have completed a major overhaul of our fire alarm system for the MS/HS Wing. We were able to install ‘smart’ detectors and pull station in all classrooms and hallways that pair with the equipment that was installed in the 2014/15 Building Addition. We will update the remainder of detectors next summer; with new equipment for the kitchen/lunchroom, gymnasium/locker-rooms, main offices, and elementary wing.
New carpet squares were installed in the kindergarten classroom and elementary Special Education rooms, bathroom stall dividers were replaced in the MS/HS restrooms, and painting was completed in various rooms around the school. Glen, Pat, and Dillon have been busy cleaning, waxing, and scrubbing to prepare the facility for school to start again. We appreciate all the work from Lien Transportation, Helms and Associates, Swanson Electric, and Precision Floors and Interior Installation.
